The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a Thursday night shooting of a man by a Melbourne Police Department officer.

  • Police say man they shot was acting irrationally, had gun
  • Man was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center
  • Unknown how many officers fired at the man

It happened on the 3000 block of St. Armens Circle in the East Bay Plantation neighborhood of Melbourne.

Melbourne police say the man was acting irrationally with a gun in his hand at about 10:30 p.m.

Officers confronted the man, and one or more of the officers shot him.

The man was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he went into surgery. He is expected to recover, but was definitely wounded, according to police.

Per standoard protocol, the officers have been placed on administrative leave during this investigation.
