Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that torched a home and killed two pet snakes in the Apopka area Friday morning.

  • Fire torches home on Nova Road in Apopka
  • Man escaped, but 2 pet snakes died in house fire

Orange County Fire Rescue got the call just before 3:30 a.m., at the home on the 2700 block of Nova Drive. They arrived in less than 6 minutes and found flames shooting out of both the front and back of the house.

It took them an hour to get the fire under control.

“It’s a scary situation when you wake up to any kind of smoke in your home and you’re not sure what’s happening,” Orange County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kimberly Buffkin said.

The man in the home has family in the neighborhood and was able to find shelter.

The state fire marshal has been called out to investigate the cause of the blaze.
