The sound of the wind moving through the Spanish moss is met with something else in Lake Wales.

Almost 150 feet above Polk County orange groves, Geert D'hollander rings in the holiday season … just a little longer.

"We always have something ... tunes and blooms here at Bok Tower Gardens,” said Erica Smith as the sound of bells fill the air in the background.

The director of marketing for the iconic attraction knows “holiday have-to-dos” and the rush don’t provide ample time to exhale.

That’s why for one more weekend, the spirit of the holidays fill the air as Bok Tower Gardens keeps Christmas alive just a little longer for folks whose holiday season didn't provide time to slow down.

"I didn't realize it was going to be a half hour concert of six or seven songs; some classical, some pop, Broadway-type stuff and some Christmas things,” said retired music teacher Rebecca Silverstein.

Rebecca began the New Year going for a stroll through the eight acres of upland pine Savannah that lead to the tower.

"I am not a great walker. I don't like to walk too far, I was a little worried this was a hill, and who knew we had hills in Central Florida?”

On what is considered the highest point in Florida south of the panhandle, Rebecca and friends enjoyed the plants and bloom and the concert overhead.

While there are plenty of ways to get some exercise, golf cart-like shuttles also allow to move around the gardens with ease.

"We walked up to the carillon, we walked around as much as we felt up to, and I would do it again,” Rebecca said.

Also still open through the weekend, the renowned winter home of Bethlehem Steel President Charles Austin Buck.

"A lot of people get confused, because we have the Bucks at Pinewood and the Boks at Bok Tower Gardens. We have the Bucks and the Boks,” explained Erica.

The Pinewood Estate built in the 1930s is still decorated from an era where the holidays were a time when folks slowed down. All the décor here appears as if the hands of time have reversed almost 90 years.

"It serves as a place for people to have that culture and remember those days gone by,” Erica said.

The plugged-in electric hearth here is still burning, even if it's for one more weekend only.

NOTE: The holidays Bok Tower Gardens and the Pinewood Estate wrap up on Sunday, Jan. 8.
