The Orange County Sheriff's Office on Sunday made an arrest in reference to a fatal shooting in Apopka on January 13.

  • Mike Matthew Gue, 25, arrested, charged with 1st degree murder
  • Deputies responded to tip regarding Gue's location
  • Gue barricaded himself within residence for several hours

Investigators said they spent the weekend following the shooting death of Joshua Hagins, 17, trying to ascertain the whereabouts of their suspect in the case, Mike Matthew Gue.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies received a tip to Gue's location. They surrounded the residence, located at 1212 S. Binion Road, in order to prevent any possible escape as they investigated the tip.

Deputies said about 15 people were removed from the location, but Gue, 25, would not surrender himself. For several hours, deputies attempted to communicate with Gue using a PA system and phone calls, but the suspect would not respond.

At one point, deputies attempted tear gas as a means to flush Gue from the location. When that failed, SWAT entered the building and found Gue after a long search.

No one was injured in the prolonged standoff. Gue was arrested and charged with 1st degree murder.
