Some Interstate 4 motorists north of downtown Orlando will encounter rolling roadblocks and temporary ramp closures several nights this week as part of the "I-4 Ultimate" project.

  • Rolling roadblocks, ramp closures to occur on westbound I-4 this week
  • 2-3 rolling roadblocks scheduled each night
  • Motorists urged to maintain safe speeds

The Florida Department of Transportation said the rolling roadblocks will occur on westbound I-4 from north of Maitland Boulevard to downtown Orlando between midnight and 5 a.m. Thursday and Friday (Sept. 8-9). They will continue Saturday, Sept. 10, if needed.

The rolling roadblock and temporary closures of westbound I-4 entrance ramps will give work crews a 30-minute window to remove girders extending over I-4 from the old westbound State Road 408 entrance ramp from Orange Avenue/Lucerne Circle.

Two or three rolling roadblocks are scheduled each night.

In total, 10 westbound I-4 entrance ramps between Maitland Boulevard and South Street will be temporarily closed during the rolling roadblocks. As the rolling roadblock passes each interchange, troopers will reopen its entrance ramp.

The westbound I-4 entrance ramp from South Street will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. during each night’s rolling roadblock.

FDOT said changes to the schedule may be necessary due to weather or other unforeseen conditions and urged motorists to maintain safe speeds while driving through work zones.

Note: This story was updated at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday to reflect new information sent by FDOT on the days and times of the rolling roadblocks.
