School districts in Central Florida are facing a teacher shortage, which is why Orange County Public Schools is holding a job fair today at Edgewater High School.

  • OCPS facing a shortage of about 90 teachers
  • Job fair held today at Edgewater High
  • 400 people already registered for event

The job fair takes place between 8 and 11 a.m.

In Orange County, there are more than 14,000 teachers working for the district. But a month after the start of classes, the district is still short almost 90 teachers.

School officials attribute the shortage to a few reasons.

"We had over 300 teachers that retired last year, we opened three schools this year and also, we serviced over 200,000 kids," said Bridget Williams, the chief of staff for Orange Public Schools. "This is a great place to work, a great place to be."

Williams said more than 400 people have registered for the event, but anyone can show up.

Anyone interested in attending the job fair should bring a resume and be able to provide a teaching certificate or statement of eligibility.
