Julia continues to meander off the South Carolina coast as a tropical storm. Meanwhile Karl has formed from Tropical Storm 12 out in the eastern Atlantic.

The National Hurricane Center's 11 p.m. Thursday advisory said Julia's maximum sustained winds were 40 mph.

The storm is about 190 miles east-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina.

Julia is moving at 5 mph and no threat to land right now.

Karl, meanwhile, formed about 575 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. The storm is moving west at 14 mph.

Maximum sustained winds are at 45 mph.

Karl is not going to have any effect on us for the next five days, but as the storm moves our meteorologists will continue to monitor it.

Tropical Storm Ian is far out in the Atlantic, about 995 miles west-northwest of the Azores. The storm is expected to lose tropical characteristics on Friday.
