Two swimmers are recovering after being bitten by sharks off the Volusia County coast Monday.

  • 2 surfers bitten by sharks Monday
  • 1 surfer taken to hospital for lacerations

A 37-year-old surfer's ankle was bitten by a shark near New Smyrna jetty. He had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

Later, a 25-year-old surfer was bit while jumping off his surfboard off Ponce Inlet. He was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening lacerations to his foot.

Volusia County Beach Safety said lifeguards flew the red flag Tuesday, warning of rough surf. There were no rescues.
