  • Bender is on suspension, spokeswoman says

On Wednesday evening, a City County Investigative Bureau investigator noticed that some of the packaging and other contents in an office safe appeared to be disturbed, Public Information Manager Kim Cannaday with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.

After it was determined that drugs were missing, an investigation revealed that Lt. Jason Bender, who was assigned to the CCIB, allegedly took the drugs “for personal use,” according to Cannaday.

Some of the drugs that were missing were controlled substances such as Roxicodone and Oxycodone pills, according to the police report.

Bender was arrested on four counts of grand theft of a control substance, which is a third-degree felony.

He was booked at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility on Thursday night and has been released on bond.

He has been placed on suspension, Cannaday stated.
