Every kid has ideas about what they want to be when they grow up.  Cameron Fulling wants to be a firefighter.

  • Cameron Fulling is fighting brain cancer, but for one day he got to fight fires

When he got to visit the Lake Mary Fire Department recently, he dressed like one.

“His mom says he wears that all the time,” said Lake Mary firefighter Bruce Williams.

But this day Fulling got to put his outfit to good use.

“It’s something he’s been looking forward to for several months," said Williams.

Cameron might not have the chance to grow up and fulfill his dream.  He has brain cancer.  And the outlook is not good.  So Lt. Bruce Williams, with the help of his fellow firefighters, worked to make Fulling’s dreams come true — even if for just a day.

“We’ve got a very special day for you,” said Williams.  “You ready?”

Cameron first got the proper training.  Williams showed him which nozzle settings were needed for different types of fires. Cameron even got to go up in a bucket lift.

Williams says he’s thankful about his own childrens’ good health.

“God blessed me with good health for my daughters, so I just want to give back for the kids who don’t have the good health,” said Williams.

Williams works with the local non-profit Hugz from Bugz, which matches him with kids who’ve survived cancer — or in Cameron’s case — children who are still fighting the disease.

“We just give them about an hour of their day where they don’t have to think about their illness,” said Williams.

And so for a few moments on this day, Cameron got to forget about the fight for his life — and just focus on fighting fires.

Cameron was asked what his favorite part of being a firefighter was.  His answer was pretty typical for any kid who ever wanted to be a firefighter and drive that big fire engine.

“Putting the sirens on."

Williams says he’s hosted several kids at the firehouse, and he hopes to host several more.
