Residents in several neighborhoods in northwest Seminole County were encouraged to boil their water Tuesday afternoon after a water main broke near Interstate 4.

County environmental officials said the water main broke under the I-4 on-ramp at State Road 46, causing a reduction of water pressure.

Neighborhoods and businesses under the precautionary boil water notice include:

  • Bookertown
  • Dunwoody
  • Lake Forest
  • Retreat at Wekiva
  • Lansdown
  • Seminole Pointe a.k.a. Vista Haven
  • Hickman Drive
  • Oregan Trail
  • Markham Bend Road
  • Woodsong

All water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes should be boiled, officials said. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. Bottled water also may be used.

"Precautionary Boil Water Advisory" sandwich boards will be placed near businesses and residences affected to inform customers of the notice and provide contact information, county officials said. Larger signs will be placed at some intersections in the affected area. Door hangers will be placed at addresses under the notice, and targeted alerts will be sent via Nextdoor.com. Information will also be relayed on the SeminoleCountyFL.gov website, through a reverse 911 call and recordings on Seminole County Environmental Services phone lines.

Boil water procedures may be found on our website: http://www.seminolecountyfl.gov/departments-services/environmental-services/water/boil-water-notice-procedures.stml. The precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until further notice. Residents using well water are not affected.
