Seminole County emergency managers are urging residents to prepare not only for Tropical Storm Colin, but for future potential storms as well.

  • Seminole County EOC officials want residents to be prepared
  • Officials recommend getting supplies well ahead of a storm

Along U.S. 17-92, residents filled sand bags all Monday morning. But officials at the county Emergency Operations Center say being prepared doesn't end there.

Inside the EOC on Monday morning, officials were busy tracking Colin. Just last week, officials practiced tracking a fictitious storm called Shirley.

"Now we have a storm, and we encourage people to prepare for this hurricane season," Emergency Management Manager Alan Harris said. "This is not something that we take lightly, and we hope our citizens don't, either."

Emergency managers and News 13 Weather Experts say not to wait till a storm hits to prepare and gather supplies.

Here are some of the supplies Seminole County officials recommend:

  • Canned goods
  • Granola or energy bars
  • MREs ("meals ready-to-eat," a k a military rations)
  • Pet supplies, including their health records

And of course, water: "We suggest a gallon of water per person per day," Harris said.
