A 45-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run early Wednesday morning in Melbourne, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The injured man was found around 2:15 a.m. lying in the eastbound turn lane of U.S. 192, troopers said.

He was taken to Wuestoff Hospital where he died.

According to investigators, the man was last seen leaving the Cumberland Farms convenience store before walking down the road.

Troopers said it was very dark and there was heavy rain in area at the time of the incident.

Investigators are now looking for an unknown vehicle that was involved.
