A 17-year-old boy with a group of friends at an Orlando-area hotel accidentally shot himself in the head and was taken to an Osceola County hospital on Sunday night, deputies said Monday.

The incident happened at the Seralago Hotel & Suites at 5678 West Irlo Bronson Highway in Kissimmee. The teen, Abraham Crispin Rodriguez, was with several friends at about 5:37 p.m.

One of the friends had a .38-caliber firearm. When Rodriguez took the gun, it accidentally went off and the teen was struck in the head, deputies said.

He was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert.

Part of the Seralago Hotel & Suites was closed off for hours Sunday evening.

A couple of guests told News 13 that a Pop Warner football youth group was on the property. But according to the group, it was not on the site.

This is an ongoing investigation.
