A mystery dog that was rescued after swimming across the Intracoastal Waterway in Flagler County a few weeks ago has been adopted, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said.

  • A dog was found Nov. 5 swimming in the Intracoastal Waterway
  • The dog was named Phelps because it was found along rocks, water
  • Phelps was adopted over the Thanksgiving weekend, deputies said

Amy Wade-Carotenuto, of the Flagler Humane Society, said the dog was adopted over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Sgt. Phil Reynolds and Palm Coast Animal Control officers helped pluck the dog, which has since been named Phelps, out of the water after he was seen in distress on some rocks on Nov. 5.

No owner showed up to claim him, and so he was adopted.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office posted the news on the agency's Facebook page.
