The 6.9 magnitude quake that hit Japan was an unfriendly reminder of the 2011 9.0 magnitude quake that led to devastating tsunamis and the Fukushima nuclear plant meltdown.
This one hit not far from Fukushima, but the Tokyo Electric Power Company posted on Twitter that there were "no abnormalities found, no radiation level changes detected, no injuries reported after the earthquake."
The region did face tsunami warnings, which put the region on edge early Tuesday morning. The warning was downgraded, but there were some reports of small tsunami waves in the region.

Just about three hours after Japan's tremor, a 6.3 magnitude quake hit New Zealand, just a week after that a 7.8 tremor struck the island near Christchurch.
The New Zealand Ministry of Civil Defense said that a tsunami was not a threat to their area.
