Hundreds of thousands of people are cleaning up and drying out since the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.

Jose Gierbolini is one of the many residents in Volusia County cleaning up after the hurricane.

"My plantains were all gone," he said.

Going through his damaged house, Gierbolini said he is trying to put things back to the way they were.

"Right now (I'm in) survival mode. Trying to clean up the mess. Trying to get back to normal," he said.

Gierbolini is getting rid of a tree that hit the enclosure of his pool. He's also dealing with a leaky roof and cleaning up debris among other things.

Volusia County suffered significant damage, from power lines down, businesses missing signage to a gas station's roof torn off and flipped over.

And while all of this is an inconvenience, Gierbolini says property is something that can always be repaired.

"Thankfully all we're doing is a massive clean up. But thankfully no one was injured. There's no fatalities that I know of in my area, so that's something to be thankful to God for,” Gierbolini said.

Gierbolini said he lived here during the storms in 2004, but Matthew was worse, causing more damage to his home.
