A truck slammed into Orange City Hall on Wednesday morning, barely missing city employees inside.

  • Crash happened at about 11 a.m. at Orange City Hall
  • No employees inside City Hall were injured, officials said
  • Driver of the pickup truck taken to area hospital as precaution

The crash happened at about 11 a.m. off U.S. 17-92 and East Central Avenue.

According to officials, a man driving a pickup truck somehow veered off the roadway, hit another pickup truck and slammed into the Orange City Commission chambers.

The truck crashed into the chambers when they were empty, but it did come close to where employees in the IT department work. No one inside was hurt.

The owner of the other vehicle involved wasn't hurt because he was inside his office at the time of the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck that went crashing into the building was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.

Orange City Police are investigating what caused the man to skid off the main road before the crash.

"There are people, pedestrians out here," Orange City Mayor Tom Laputka said. "This is a busy place. But it didn't happen, so we are thankful for that."

The hole in the wall will be boarded up until repairs can be made, city officials said.
