Family members of a Leesburg man killed in a hit-and-run crash are calling for justice.

That fatal hit-and-run happened sometime around 8:30 Friday night near the intersection of South Haines Creek Road and Northern Avenue.

Family members have begun a makeshift memorial there for 64-year-old William Jernigan.

Florida Highway Patrol says Jernigan was walking near the intersection when he was killed.

Troopers say that driver fled the scene and they do not have a description of the vehicle.

The victim’s daughter, Bonita Schlough, is calling on anyone who may have seen something to speak up. She says no one deserves to die the way her father did.

“My father didn’t deserve this,” Schlough said. “No human being deserves to be run down and left like a piece of trash on the side of the road.”

Troopers say they have very few clues as to what type of vehicle struck Jernigan.

They are asking anyone who may have seen something to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
