Investigators have identified the woman found Wednesday along the side of the road near DeLand as 30-year-old Laura Lynn Nagengast.

Nagengast, of Daytona Beach, was found just after 11 a.m. after two motorists spotted the woman’s body in a wooded area along Central Parkway, near International Speedway Boulevard.

Deputies taped off a large area of Central Parkway until around 4 p.m. Wednesday, including parts of a yard belonging to Don King, who lives next door to the area where Nagengast was found.

King said a man and a woman who are homeless have been living in a tent nearby. Authorities would not immediately confirm if Nagengast was homeless.

Gary Davidson, public information officer for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, said there hasn’t been an official ruling on the cause of death.

"Accordingly, it continues to be investigated as a suspicious death," Davidson said.
