Plans to expand the Altamonte Springs campus of Seminole State College were approved by the school’s Board of Trustees Monday.

Plans call for a new 200,000-square-foot health science and education building at the Altamonte Springs Campus located at the corner of Maitland Boulevard and S.R. 434.

“The development will have a great impact on our community and Seminole State College,” says Dr. Joe Sarnovsky, executive vice president for Seminole State. “This facility will enhance the college’s ability to prepare a strong workforce for our region, create jobs and help boost our economy. The partnerships this creates will have lasting effects on our community.”

The new $48 million building will have seven-levels with ground-level retail and commercial space campus. The college would occupy about one-third of the space, but the entire facility would support the learning environment, Sarnovsky said.

The building could open as early as August 2017.
