Flagler County is one of Florida's fastest-growing counties, according to the U.S. Census research. Along with people, the number of bike trails are growing, as well.

Kick off August with a trip along one of Florida's most scenic bike trails. This free "Trails and Parks Guide" from Palm Coast and the Flagler Beaches lists 125 miles of routes and destinations where spotting wildlife is common.

"I have seen a bobcat in here, I have seen many deer," cyclist Mike Ruzicka said. The biker from St. Augustine pedals the trails along Florida's Intracoastal Waterway often.

"These trails here ... are very well maintained," Ruzicka said.

Thick hammocks and sunny paths along the Intracoastal Waterway are the attraction, along with options for lunch. Many of the trails have on-and-off locations along State Road A1A.

Captain's BBQ is listed by Trip Advisor as one of the top 10 barbecue places in the U.S.

Dry-rubbed ribs, St. Louis ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork and slow-cooked turkey breast are the stars there.

Inside the kitchen, you'll find a tree growing through the roof, which is proof this barbecue is slow-roasted overnight.

"Tankful, your order is ready," the speaker squawks.

At Captain's BBQ, the portions come out large.

"Work up a great appetite and have a great meal to finish it off," said Mike Goodman, owner of Captain's BBQ. Goodman has created ample bike parking in front of his restaurant.

"You don't have to chain your bike up here," Goodman said. "It's safe. This is old Florida.".

Also at Captain's, a pitstop for your wheels. Six locations along the network of Flagler County trails provide fix-it stations.

The trail leads to Washington Oaks Gardens State Park. There, you can explore the stately home, stop and smell the roses in the rose garden and rest under the majestic oak trees.

"With these beautiful oaks, you won't find this many places anymore," Goodman said.
