The first phase of a new toll road that will complete the Orlando Beltway is set to begin Monday.

The Wekiva Parkway toll road will eventually connect Lake, Orange and Seminole counties. It's designed to create a loop of all toll roads around Orlando.

Work on the 25-mile first phase will begins where State Road 429 ends at U.S. Highway 441, and it will go up to near Ponkan Road.

The parkway will eventually connect to State Road 417 to complete the beltway.

Throughout the construction process, there will be temporary lane, ramp and road closures, but officials with the Central Florida Expressway Authority said they will try to have as minimal effects on traffic as possible.

The project has been in the works for about 30 years.

Construction on Phase 1 is expected to be finished by spring of 2017, but the entire 25-mile Wekiva Parkway won't be finished until 2021.
