Some incoming high school seniors in Brevard County are spending their summer vacation getting a head start on their careers.

A field of 25 students will be vying for 13 summer jobs that will lead to a paid internship through the city of Palm Bay's Juniors to Jobs program.

Mock interviews with prospective employers will narrow down the field. The students will work up to 25 hours per week for a five-week period.

Jobs range from health care, law, engineering and other professions.

City leaders said the program helps develop the tools the students need to be successful in the world of work.

CareerSource Brevard County and the Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce are co-sponsors of the event.
