Six patients were transported to local trauma centers Monday afternoon after two vehicles collided in Lake County.

Lake Firefighters had to remove two patients from the multiple vehicle accident involving a Jeep wrangler and a semi on State Road 46, which is in the area of construction on 429.

Three of the six patients were in critical condition, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Trauma helicopters were unable to respond to the scene because of weather.

"We had three engines and a squad respond, along with multiple EMS transport units" said Lt. Brian Gamble, Vice President of the Professional Firefighters of Lake County.

"With the humidity, heat and work conditions, we have to respond additional manpower to help our initial arriving units with all the patients and to cut the patients out of one vehicle. There was serious damage to the Jeep Cherokee."

The accident is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
