Police have identified a woman killed in a parachuting accident at Skydive DeLand on Wednesday as 33-year-old Jessica Edgeington.

In a statement released Thursday morning, DeLand police said indications from their investigation were that the deadly accident was caused by a mid-air collision of two parachute canopies.

First responders arrived after 4:10 p.m. Wednesday and pronounced Edgeington, who had just parachuted, dead at the scene.

Edgeington's death was the second at Skydive DeLand in under four months. In January, William "Blake" Marston, a Navy SEAL from New Hampshire, died after making a hard landing at the complex, located at DeLand Municipal Airport.

Two other men died in separate incidents at Skydive DeLand in 2013, including 62-year-old Santiago Rossell, who worked as a pilot for the Boston Red Sox.

That year, the United States Parachute Associated recorded a total of 24 fatal skydiving accidents nationwide out of around 3.2 million jumps.

Skydive Deland is a large operation, with thousands of jumps made at the complex every year, and the home of SkyDive University, a professional skydiving instruction and coaching organization.
