Orange County deputies are investigating a drive-by shooting, which happened at an apartment complex across the street from the University of Central Florida.

Investigators say children were nearby when the bullets were flying.

It happened on Socrates Drive, right off Alafaya Trail.  Investigators say two men, ages 21 and 22, were shot at an apartment building behind the Sterling Central apartments. The shooter then sped away. It was a close call for some children who were inside the building that was struck by bullets.

"While these guys did the drive-by, rounds went into the apartment behind where they were standing and there were four kids in that apartment," said Lt. Paul Hopkins with the sheriff's office. "Fortunately, none of those kids were hurt tonight but that does tell us that these guys have no regard for human life, they have no regard for where they fire their bullets and it's very important for us to get those people off the streets tonight before they can hurt somebody else."

Right now there is no information on possible suspects. Both victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
