In the shadow of the Publix water tower in Lakeland sits a relic from an era gone by.

"It kinda has the old school feel," said Ashley Aucoin of Lakeland.

At dusk, the Silver Moon Drive-In lights up.

Since 1948, the drive-in is the place to pull in and see a film outside.

"At the drive-in, you get to experience all of the stars. In a movie theater, all you get to see is the screen," said Lakeland third-grader Juliana Hayes.

Hayes and her sister Ashley set up camp in the back of the car.

"It's only $5 for an adult and only $1 for a child, which is a great price," Aucoin said.

If $5 wasn't impressive enough, plan ahead you can catch a double feature on some nights.

The prices at the snack bar are also a great value. It's part of owner Harold Spears’ lifelong dream.

"I use to run movies on a Saturday night for the neighborhood kids," Spears said.

In the drive-in world, Spears is a living legend for what he's maintained for generations.

"She just learned to walk,” said Kara Kelly about her daughter. “So she likes to come out here, 'cause she can watch the movie but she doesn't have to stay in one spot."

"It was awesome," Hayes said.

The Silver Moon Drive-In is open seven nights a week. Most folks arrive just before sunset.
