A family of Great Horned Owls has people pulling over and looking skyward in one section of Palm Coast.

People driving along Matanzas Woods Parkway in the northern section of Palm Coast have no doubt seen the crowds gather these last few weeks.

It’s just east of the I-95 overpass, near Matanzas High School where cars seem to always be pulled over and people staring intently at one tree.

And if you look closely, and you get lucky, uou’ll see what all the hub-bub is about.

A family of Great Horned Owls has been putting on a show.

Only recently have people been able to see the two youngest members of the group though.

The owlets are starting to climb around the nest, which according to the Audubon Guide to North American Birds, begins when the young are around five weeks old.

They can fly between nine and ten weeks, so you may want to swing by and see them while you still can.

And if you’re not interested in seeing the birds, be careful driving that stretch of Matanzas Woods Parkway, because the shoulder does get crowded in the evening.
