A 1-year-old girl who died last month in Orange County had been raped, according to the medical examiner who performed her autopsy.

The girl's mother and boyfriend were arrested over the weekend for second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. The child had injuries to her abdomen and head, which caused her death. So far, no one has been charged with the sexual attack on the girl.

The child’s biological mother, Keara Colbert-Davis, and her live-in boyfriend, David Smith II, were arrested Monday.

According to the arrest affidavits, the girl was alone with Smith Feb. 28 in the Parkwood Inn Motel, 3300 W. Colonial Drive, while her mother was at work. He called 911 that afternoon because the girl was not breathing.

When paramedics arrived, they found the girl lying naked and unresponsive on the floor. An hour later, she was declared dead at the hospital.

Both suspects agreed to be interviewed by detectives, but their stories contained quite a few differences in what actually happened the day the baby died.

Further investigation found the mother used an app on her phone to record all incoming and outgoing calls. Those calls revealed the couple going over their stories so they matched when they were questioned by police.

Investigators searched the motel room and found evidence of blood on the baby’s diapers and a dress. All of the linens were missing from the room and were never recovered.

DNA samples from Smith were also taken by investigators.
