The excavation search continues Thursday in Seminole County for a Longwood woman who has not been seen or heard from in more than 10 years.

Longwood police have refused to release the woman's identity for fear of jeopardizing the investigation. All investigators would say is that the victim was 29 years old when she was reported missing in 2004.

Investigators brought in a backhoe Thursday to dig deeper for possible human remains.

Cadaver dogs identified an area off Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Dog Track Road, near Lyman High School, as a hot spot. The area is the former site of a neighborhood filled with deteriorating homes that were torn down last year.

"They hit on a couple of hot spots," said Longwood police Officer Kevin Tuck, referring to the cadaver dogs. "We're looking at those hot spots, seeing if we can locate any remains."

Police said they believe this could be a criminal case, but would not confirm if there were any suspects identified. Officers said they have not received new tips in this case and are not asking for the public's help.

"We're taking our leads and seeing if it turns into any clues that we can go forward with the investigation," Tuck said.

Investigators said they expected to dig in that area for the next few days.
