Police have identified the suspect in an attempted burglary who was shot in the face Thursday by a Winter Park homeowner.
Winter Park Police say 24-year-old Dontavian McKinnon is still in the hospital and now faces criminal charges.
The homeowner opened his garage after returning home Thursday afternoon and found two men trying to steal from him, police said.
The homeowner told police he thought the two men were holding a weapon, so he fired his gun.
That’s when McKinnon and another man panicked and jumped into a car, police said.
The suspected burglar crashed the car, dumped it on a nearby dead-end street and took off on foot.
McKinnon was arrested by police a short time later. He is being charged with armed burglary and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police are still looking for the other suspected burglar.
