All summer, the Osceola County Animal Shelter was at capacity, with hundreds of cats and dogs being turned in every week.

Now the shelters says they may have a solution that could help prevent the problem in the future.

The shelter is partnering up with Snip-It to bring a permanent low-cost spay and neuter clinic to the area.

The clinic would be accessible to families in Osceola County who can’t afford to pay the full price of the costly surgery.

The shelter director says the price of the surgery really prevents families from spay or neutering their pets and that’s the reason they have kittens and puppies, abandoned, surrendered and eventually growing up in the shelter.

While they have a plan and a facility, they don’t have the funds to renovate the building. This month they will be raising funds to for those renovations in hopes of getting the clinic opened before next summer, when the shelter will see an uptick in puppies and kittens.

On Friday at Osceola Heritage Park, Snip-It will host a “Diamonds are Furrever” Casino charity night.
