Hurricane Joaquin is churning up large waves on the coast and keeping lifeguards busy.

On Saturday Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue lifeguards pulled 15 people from the water because of rip currents.

No one was injured, but officials say unless you're an experienced surfer, swimmers should stay out of the water.

All portions of the beach were closed Saturday to beach driving.

In Brevard County, the swells created excellent conditions for surfers in cocoa beach. But officials do want to stress the currents and waves are extremely strong and only the most experienced swimmers and surfers should be in the water- and even then, they’re reminding everyone to stay in front of a life guard tower.
