A car crashed through the front door of an Ocala gym Friday afternoon, just feet from where people were working out.

It happened this afternoon at Healthy Hart’s on Magnolia Avenue near downtown Ocala.

One exercise bike that took the brunt of the damage, as a driver came crashing right through the plate glass window, just feet away from the street.

Luckily no one was on that exercise bike, and the driver wasn’t seriously hurt.

As you can see in the photo taken immediately after the crash, the car jumped the curb and went into the gym, ending up right at the front door.

Authorities say the crash was a result of distracted driving.

News 13 talked to an off-duty firefighter who helped make sure everyone was OK during the chaotic situation

“It’s just what we do, natural reaction grabbed the baby ran outside, came around the car was smoking the lady was in another world, she wouldn’t get out of the car so I grabbed her out and made sure everyone was safe,” said Corey King, off-duty firefighter.

“She said she reached down and she swerved in and hit it, and she was very sympathetic, but it just goes to show you can’t text and drive you got to pay attention to what you are doing,” said Clinton Hart, owner of Healthy Hart's Gym.

Staff spent the afternoon cleaning broken glass. A structural engineer was called out to make sure the building was safe.

Despite all this damage, Hart said he hoped to be open for a fitness class later this evening.
