A 56-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning while driving along North Oceanshore Boulevard in Flagler County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Mark Weins, of North Haven, Connecticut, was traveling north near Camino Del Rey Parkway when, for unknown reasons, he drifted onto the east shoulder and then drifted back onto the roadway.

Weins, who was driving a Ford Taurus, then swerved northeast, rotated clockwise and traveled onto the east shoulder.

The left side of Weins' vehicle struck a palm tree, became airborne, struck a metal fence and then came to a final rest on top of the metal fence. Weins died at the scene, troopers said.

Alcohol involvement is pending, according to the report.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Florida Highway Patrol is looking for more information. Anyone with information is asked to call Cpl. Steve Howard at 904-825-5080 or email stevenhoward@flhsmv.gov.
