A man is dead after an early-morning shooting erupted at a house party in the Pine Hills area of Orange County.

It happened around 5:45 a.m. Sunday at a home on Charleen Terrace, which is south of Silver Star Road.

Twenty-four-year-old Okeem Jarvis died and deputies said multiple shots were fired by different shooters.

Newton Edwards heard the gunfire and came to see what was going on.

“When I drove by the first time, I seen two bodies laying down and three people holding their leg, holding their sides. They got shot,” Edwards said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, approximately 30 people were at the party at the time.

At least six people were injured in the shooting. They were taken to area hospitals with what's believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Edwards, a 14-year resident of Pine Hills, is disappointed but not surprised at this incident.

“This is nothing new,” Edwards said. “That’s why I’m so calm. This is nothing new. It’s like, they throw house parties here all the time. It’s not the first time somebody got shot.”

Deputies could not confirm previous incidences at the residence.

However, a neighbor said this was considered a place where people from “the islands” could go to party without having to drive downtown. She is also disappointed, but thinks it is not a true reflection of what these parties are like.

“We get some people that don’t know how to act, once they get alcohol or whatever in their system, and don’t know the limit, to go home or confrontation wise, and take it to a whole new level,” said Akenia J., a neighbor.

Due to the large crowd, deputies believe someone saw who fired the fatal bullet and are asking witnesses to come forward.
