A teenager was rushed to the hospital Friday after police said he was shot in the neck after an argument broke out inside a Publix in Orange County.

Orlando police said a group of teens were fighting around noon Friday in the bakery area of the Publix on John Young Parkway, near Americana Boulevard.

As the fight escalated, police said someone pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the neck.

The victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition, and police said it's a miracle no one was more seriously hurt.

Banks Zetrene was inside the Publix just a few aisles away, when he heard gunfire. He said it sounded like a loud balloon popping, and people started screaming and running out of the store.

"Blood was on the floor, on the bakery floor," said Zetrene.

Police said the shooting even had them stunned.

"It's almost unbelievable, that something like this would happen in the middle of the day, inside when people were — a day after Christmas — shopping and doing their thing," said Orlando police Lt. David Arenas.

The store was shut down for several hours as police investigated the shooting. The Publix reopend later Friday afternoon.

Employees at the grocery store were shocked.

"A bullet could strike anyone, so anybody was at risk," said Javier Cruz.

Police said they were still working to figure out what started the fight, and how it escalated so violently inside a supermarket full of people.

"It was mass chaos," Lt. Arenas said.

No arrests were immediately announced in the shooting.
