The father of NFL wide receiver and UCF alumnus Brandon Marshall was arrested in Seminole County after police said he resisted officers, elbowing one of them in the face, after being told to leave the parking lot of a closed business.
Casselberry police arrested Freddrick Marshall, 51, early Monday morning on charges of two counts of battery on an officer, plus a count each of resisting an officer and misuse of 911.
Police were called to the scene on Belle Avenue around 1:15 a.m. to assist police from Winter Springs, who were responding to a suspicious person in a white van parked in a dark parking lot of a closed business that one of the responding officers said had been burglarized recently.
According to police, Freddrick Marshall had gotten into a fight with his wife and left his house to "sleep in a dark area."
When police knocked on the window of the van, they said Marshall became aggressive, telling the officers he detailed the vehicles at the business and was allowed to be there.
Officers told Marshall he needed to leave the property if he could not provide proof that he was allowed to be there.
Police said Marshall called 911 twice while officers were on scene, saying he wanted "a lieutenant out here now." The officers warned Marshall after the first call, and proceeded to arrest him for misuse of 911 after he called a second time.
While attempting to handcuff Marshall, police said he resisted arrest and elbowed one of the officers in the face. Officers used a stun gun on Marshall's hand during the scuffle.
Marshall was taken to the Seminole County Jail without incident.
Freddrick Marshall's son, Brandon, is a nine-year NFL veteran currently with the Chicago Bears. He attended Lake Howell High School, in Winter Park, and later UCF before he was drafted in 2006.
