A doe that fell into a Flagler County pond is back in the wild after it was saved by code enforcement officers last week in Palm Coast.

The doe fell into a pond in Grand Haven — a gated community in Palm Coast — on Wednesday morning. Residents spotted the doe balancing herself on the culvert pipe to rest, but she kept sliding off and wasn't able to get out of the pond, city officials said.

Palm Coast Animal Control got a phone call around 8 a.m. Four officials from the city of Palm Coast arrived to the pond and were able to get a thick leash around the doe's neck.

The doe tried to swim away, but they were able to pull the doe back to the side and lift her out of the water.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials arrived to the scene and checked on the doe several times before releasing her back into the woods, officials said.
