The Lake County Firefighters Charity is hoping to help families this holiday season.

Organizers said they've had applications to help between 600 and 700 children this year and have already started a waiting list.

To ensure they don’t turn any families away, the charity is collecting new toy donations at all county fire stations.

“The number of families that need help continue to grow over the years," said Lt. Brian Gamble, the charity's president. "We have been running this program for over seven years now, and this is the most requests we have ever received. We hate to turn anyone away.”

A toy store in Leesburg has also been set up as a place for families who apply for assistance to come and shop for their children.
