Seven people are facing charges after several residents complained about suspected drug houses in Lake County.

Police said they have received various complaints in the past months.

Detectives were able to obtain search warrants at two suspected residences. One is located close to an elementary school, community sports fields and a local church. Police said the other is in a relatively quiet neighborhood.

Police executed the first search warrant Monday, Dec. 8 at a home on the 110 block of West Golf Links Avenue.

Illegal narcotics, including cocaine and marijuana, were found inside the home.

Fifty-six-year-old Kenneth Whiting, the home’s owner, was charged with possession of a prescription drug not in a proper container, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. He was released on $2,500 bond.

Whiting’s roommate John King, 48, was also arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. King posted $6,000 bond and was released from jail.

Police arrested Kathleen Gwynn for possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on scene with a notice to appear in court.

Three others were arrested Friday, Dec. 12 after a search warrant was executed at a home on the 1025 block of South Morin Street.

Police arrested homeowner Homer Nevins, 54, charging him with possession of firearms by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by convicted felon, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a church, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within a 1000 feet of a church, possession of an altered firearm, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in the Lake County Jail on $111,000 bond.

Thirty-year-old Glenn Smith Jr. was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within a 1000 feet of a church, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $5,250.

Vernell Beard, 58, was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a church, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within a 1000 feet of a church, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $16,000 bond.

Laquantay Johnson was issued a notice appear and released from the scene for possession of marijuana less than 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
