The holidays are fast approaching, but school in Brevard County is still in session.

This means children still need supplies to help them learn.

Tuesday morning, 250 backpacks and three boxes of supplies, donated by Bright House Networks employees on the Space Coast, were loaded up on a truck.

The supplies are headed to the Brevard Schools Foundation's Supply Zone for Teachers store in Cocoa where educators can pick up free supplies for their students without paying out of pocket.

Most donations happen before school starts, but Bright House decided to donate mid-year.

“We decided we're going to skip the summertime, and we'd do it in the fall,” said Bright House Senior Community Relations Manager Jim Platman. “Get the supplies up in the November, December timeframe. And that's what we're doing today.”

More than 25 schools are in the school supply program.

Bright House Networks is the parent company of News 13.
