A 33-year-old man from Volusia County died last week after he was electrocuted while he installed a dishwasher at a relative's home, police said.

Jason Ferguson, of Port Orange, was helping family members install a new dishwasher Nov. 6 at a home on the 1600 block of Caldwell Road, in South Daytona.

While Ferguson installed the machine, both families were getting ready to eat dinner. They eventually noticed Ferguson was on his knees and leaning against the dishwasher with his left arm extended behind the dishwasher. He wasn't moving, police said.

Relatives noticed he was turning red and wasn't responsive, police said. The others in the house grabbed Ferguson by his clothes and placed him on his back to perform CPR.

Ferguson was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The investigation and the autopsy revealed Ferguson was leaning on the metal door of the dishwasher, and his wedding ring touched an unknown element in the back of the machine, which electrocuted and killed him.
