Bill McNeil has resigned as the city of Casselberry's police chief after being placed on leave.

A city spokeswoman said McNeil notified the city Thursday of his intentions to resign, effective immediately.

McNeil was put on leave after an accusation of misconduct.

An attorney for several female employees within the department -- sent a letter to the city citing gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and a hostile work environment.

The attorney also claims McNeil sent inappropriate text messages and video of himself to an employee.

McNeil had been with Casselberry police for 26 years, serving as the department's chief since 2010.
