A 43-year-old Volusia County man is facing multiple felony charges related to paying for sex with a minor.

Investigators say an undercover officer began online communication with the suspect, David Carley, on August 28, 2014, after Carley responded to an online ad posted by the undercover officer.

During those initial conversations, investigators say Carley told them he was familiar with underage prostitution, but had been "unwilling to pull the trigger," because he didn't want any trouble with police. After a short back-and-forth, Carley began asking about the girl, and specified his desired age range was 14-16 years old.

According to the police report, Carley backed out of the first meeting, but wanted to reschedule. Less than a week later, Carley asked the undercover if he and the girl were in town, and stressed again that he wanted to avoid any jail time.

Carley and the undercover officer agreed to meet on September 25, allegedly to facilitate the prostitution of a young girl Carley believed to be 14 years old.

Undercover officers waited for Carly, who eventually grew suspicious and began driving around the parking lot. That's when they sent a marked police car to stop his vehicle for a traffic infraction.

According to the police report, Carley texted the undercover officer that was now even more nervous, but sent him a picture of the ticket to prove he wasn't involved with law enforcement. Investigators say Carley said he still wanted to meet as soon as possible.

The undercover officer pushed for another meeting a few days later, and Carley agreed.

Investigators say when Carley arrived to meet the undercover officer, he was contacted by uniformed police and immediately jumped onto the ground, banging his head into the pavement and began yelling, "my life is over."

Police say Carley cooperated during an interview, but would not give them consent to search his cell phone.

The investigation is ongoing with the Daytona Beach Police Department.
