Governor Rick Scott appointed a new clerk of court for Orange County.

Orlando lawyer Eddie Fernandez replaced Lydia Gardner, who died last year. Fernandez takes over an office dealing with the fallout from the forged prison document scandal.

Last year, two prison inmates used forged documents filed with the clerk's office to get out of prison. They were eventually caught.

"One of the important things I want to do is have interagency conversations, so this kind of thing doesn't happen again," Fernandez said.

Fernandez is the second Latino Scott appointed to public office this week.

Carlos Lopez-Cantera was chosen on Tuesday as the lieutenant governor. Some political observers say Scott is trying to reach out to Hispanics during his re-election.
