George Zimmerman's defense team has released new documents and evidence, including photos of Trayvon Martin's cell phone.

The evidence was part of the state's 12th supplemental discovery release to the defense.

Zimmerman's lawyers said the discovery also included a data file from Trayvon's phone, but added: "We believe [it] is not part of the public record, and therefore will not be provided here."

Investigators said Trayvon Martin was on his cell phone with a girlfriend, currently known only as "Witness 8," shortly before the confrontation with Zimmerman, who shot and killed the teen Feb. 26, 2012.

Trayvon was unarmed, but Zimmerman claimed he shot him in self-defense after the teen attacked him.

The newly released photos of the phone show it was a black T-mobile Android phone.

Part of the phone appeared to contain the remains of sticker shaped like a heart.
