The legal team for George Zimmerman now have a copy of Trayvon Martin's school records.

A judge ruled that the defense has a right to review the records to decide if it could play a role in the case. This comes after Martin's parents' effort to keep them private. The Martin's attorney Benjamin Crump calls the school records irrelevant, since Zimmerman and Martin didn't know each other prior to the night of the shooting.

Trayvon Martin was shot and killed nearly a year ago by George Zimmerman, who said he feared for his life and claims he shot the teen in self-defense.

Many are wondering if 17-year-old Martin's past could play a role in Zimmerman's second degree murder trial.

"There's really no way to know what may become relevant until we see it," said legal analyst Mark Nejame. "But I think this will play to public opinion if in fact there were misdeeds that are going to be found out in school records, and I think we're going to find some of that."
