The Florida nursing home where 12 patients died during Hurricane Irma is laying off its 245 employees, because the facility in Broward County is closing its doors.

The layoffs include 79 certified nursing assistants, 37 licensed practical nurses, 23 occupational or physical therapists, 18 registered nurses, 25 environmental or laundry workers, 10 administrative assistants, five doctors, and others who worked in activities, dietary aid, engineering and supplies.

The nursing home is under a criminal investigation after 12 people died in sweltering heat when the facility lost power during Hurricane Irma.

Several families of the victims have filed lawsuits. The governor also used a new mandate for nursing homes that is supposed to be met by December.
